About the Project

The Church is a community devoted to God, their families, and to helping one another. In Alexandria, Virginia, we have a special community where we share our lives with our pets. Our animals are family to us and we don’t exclude them from acceptance, assistance, or our Heaven.

Bless the Animals Alexandria (BTAA) is a special project of The Church of St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland. Everyone needs help now and then. Our goal is to match the needs of our animals with volunteers who can help with everyday problems and to provide a spiritual connection in times of loss.

Here are some of the ways we can help:

  • The “Angels” database will allow members of the community to request help (for themselves or someone else) and also allow them to volunteer to provide the needed assistance.
  • The Blessing of the Animals, in the Church’s long tradition, will be personalized and available on an individual basis. If a pet is in need of a home visit, we will arrange for a priest to visit and perform a blessing.
  • Pet Bereavement Meetings will provide a group setting and spiritual guidance for those who are grieving a lost friend.
  • Local Animal Rescue Groups are given support by partnering with them for events and donation drives.

Bless the Animals Alexandria is a brand new effort and we need your help—we welcome your ideas! If you know of a need—please tell us. And if you can help us to support “the Faithful and their friends”—please join us.
